At this time next week I will be in the rugged wilderness of the Boundary Waters in Minnesota! Every year we go up there for 5 days. Those who are not campers, canoe-ers and fishermen or women scratch their heads and wonder why on earth we would willingly leave the comforts of civilization to rough it in the wild. To leave running water, to leave electricity for light, to leave our nicely stocked refrigerator and stove, to leave a comfy bed. Why?

Look at it this way, we are leaving running waters to see running streams, rapids and lakes; we are leaving electricity to see the light of the moon and stars unadulterated by city lights; we are leaving our fridge and stores behind to eat the fruit of the earth; we are leaving our beds… well, I don’t have a good reason for that one–How about this: to get a closer view of the tent floor and feel intimate with the rocks and roots beneath our tent? Ya, that works!

Truly, up there in the spacious wild one can get away from the busyness of life and get a different perspective.  The Almighty Creator displays His glory and might in His creation. His power within the rapids, His glory in the sunsets, His depth in the lakes and on and on! It could not be said more aptly than the following:

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10

The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the people see His glory.
Psalm 97:6

And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are Thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Thy ways, Thou King of saints.
Revelation 15:3
