day_5_south_padre_island_63.jpgThese past few weeks at church we’ve been looking at “case studies” of people that have had their faith tested during hopeless times.

From the case of a child born with life threatening physical ailments to losing a husband to cancer. It has been encouraging to hear the stories of how even though they were at rock bottom God was with them and gave them hope.

There is always hope with God as our foundation.

This past week the widow of the man she lost to cancer shared her story. It was a tearjerker but so encouraging. One of the analogies she shared I thought was particularly good.

She likened it to being an ocean.

The waters can go from calm clear sailing to a squall, fierce and unrelenting. The waves crash and tumble, their fury at its highest and then when spent, goes back to a glassy calm.

During it all, whether the waters are pounding or lapping gently, the foundation of the ocean stays the same. It is a solid base.

And so it is with our lives and our Rock of salvation. When the storms of life toss us to and fro we still have a solid foundation on Christ who will never let the storms over come you.

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
Psalms 42:7-8

When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:
When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth.
Proverbs 8:28-29
