“Blessed is the man who hopes in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
And that spreads out her roots by the river,
And shall not see when the heat comes,
But her leaf shall be green;
And shall not be careful in the year of drought,
Neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7 & 8

14-1.jpgWe as humans have in our innate nature the tendency to rely on the things that make up our lives. Seldom do we realize it, but most of the time we’re huddled up under our security blankets. Security blankets come in all shapes and sizes. Success, friends, money, church, events, schedules… They are what make us cozy and comfortable. But take away the security blanket, we huddle in cold discomfort and tremble with terror.

There is never a time in our lives where full trust and reliance on God is not necessary. When the flow of life is uninterrupted and things go as we plan them to, we still must nestle securely under His sheltering hand. We live in a real world where real tragedies happen, and at any given moment any one of our security blankets could be ripped away from us. And if we’re sitting out in the middle of no where, we are vulnerable to the tempests; the winds and gales will beat us down and we will whither away.

God is faithful; He never changes. It is important to anchor ourselves in Him, so that no matter what the season of life, there will be no tempest that is not blocked by His shelter. If we have our trust firmly rooted in His love, there is nothing that can come to us that is not first sifted through His own wise hands. And when our hope is secure, even when the storm rages we will be strong, and can still bring forth fruit.
