prayer request

Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of the victims who were killed in the recent shootings. An Omaha shopping mall, a Christian training center in Arvada, CO., and a Colorado Springs church all targeted by the trauma of evil. The heartache of both the relations of the victims as well as the families of the gunmen is hard to even begin to imagine. May we remember them in our prayers this Christmas season, and find hope in the promise the Messiah brings: peace on earth.

There is such a difference in knowing something to be true in your mind, and feeling it within yourself.

Guest author, Caitlin Butler, is pleading for prayer for the serious condition of her dad (he is basically in congestive heart failure), her family and herself. The unknowns are great, the tendency towards fear and panic is immense, and to transfer all the head-knowledge of trusting in God to the heart can be very difficult in times like these. Therefore, I’m asking you, dear readers, to take a moment and lift up Caitlin and her family. They need our love and support and prayers.

10-2.jpgPray for:

  • :: A fast recovery for her dad
  • :: Wisdom for the doctors
  • :: Grace for her mom and the rest of her family
  • :: Comfort for Caitlin

I know she will greatly appreciate your prayers.

For more details, read her post, If It’s Okay to Covet Prayers, and stay up to date on her xanga site, RainboGirl. You may also send her a note of encouragement at

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness…
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”
Excerpts from Isaiah 61

I just want to thank all of you for your love and prayers for my whole family during this difficult time. Unless you’ve worn these same shoes, you have no idea how much they mean to each of us. Prayer has truly made the difference in our hearts as we deal with the trauma of Uncle John’s suicide. Please continue to pray for peace, comfort and grace as the funeral plans come together tomorrow.

The viewing is at 10 AM (central standard time), with the funeral service starting at 11, which will be followed by the burial and a luncheon at a local park. Uncle John’s friends and family are still really struggling and your continued prayers are vital. He has 3 young sons that are having a hard time coming to grips with their dad’s tragic death. Pray that God will work in the lives of all those present at the funeral and use this tragedy to draw them closer to Him.

Also, blogging will be quite sparse here in the immediate future. Thanks again for the outpouring of love and prayers. The emails, phone calls, visits, chats, and everything else have made a tremendous difference.

God is still God!

We found out this morning that my Uncle John committed suicide last night. It’s a tragedy. All the questions that immediately flood your mind when you hear such devastating news are questions that have no answers in this situation. The senselessness of it all is the only thing I can see right now. My mom is taking this really hard. Please pray for the entire family. His three boys, his ex-wife, his three sisters… Can something good come out of such a tragedy?

Thank you so much.

I talked to our very own Rachel Marie last night. If you keep up on her blog, This One Thing I Do, you know that she recently underwent oral surgery to remove 4 wisdom teeth that had been causing her a lot of discomfort. Due to the teeth being impacted the surgery was quite invasive and cut into her bone. The surgery itself went great. However, recovery is extremely painful and intense. I just want to encourage you to hold this dear girl close in prayer for a fast and full recovery. Not to mention, her sweet mom is due to have a baby any day, so the swift return to health is vital! 🙂 I know she will greatly appreciate your prayers for her.

Thank you,
